Q Cabin Kits Review

Q Cabin Kits designs and prefabricates fire-resistant structural materials kits. Their home kits are made using steel Quonset which not only gives their homes a unique look but also helps make them fire resistant. Q Cabin Kits offers a series of pre-designed homes, several outbuildings, and also gives buyers the opportunity to develop a custom design.

Because their kits are built using a Quonset shell, completed homes feature a unique, contemporary design. Homes often feature quarter-circle or semi-circle rooflines which play prominently into the home’s overall design aesthetic. This can be seen in their range of 6 predesigned homes which range in size from 120 square feet to 1,400 square feet. Many of their designs can be modified and customized to either increase or decrease the total amount of living area and bedrooms.

One of the unique features of Q Cabin Kits is that they are designed to be fire resistant. Because their roofs are made from a steel shell and interior framing is done using steel studs and floor joists, they are able to withstand many conditions that traditional, wood-framed structures may not. Other parts of the homes’ structural framing are built using structural insulated panels (SIPs) which are also manufactured off-site and assembled at the final project location.

From a planning standpoint, is important to note that Q Cabin Kits only provides materials kits for the structural shell of the home. That means that a local contractor is needed to finish the interior of the home. For projects located nearby to Q Cabins’ Chico, California headquarters, they can assist with assembling the kit and finishing the interior of the home. Outside of that, Q Cabin Kits can assist buyers with pulling permits and finding local subcontractors.

Strengths:

  • Their homes have unique aesthetics and are designed to be fire resistant

  • Provide turn-key building services for projects near their Chico headquarters and project assistance outside of that area

Reasons they might not be for you:

  • Several past customers have complained about inaccurate cost estimates and unforeseen charges

  • You are looking for a company with a longer operating history and more completed projects
