Mighty Buildings is a prefab construction and technology company based in Oakland, California. While Mighty Buildings got their start by offering 3D-printed ADUs and manufactured single-family homes to individual homebuyers, they now operate as a manufacturer of home component kits for commercial builders. When partnering with builders they offer customizable, 3D-printed panelized building kits which can be assembled at the final construction site.
While Mighty Buildings notes they can manufacture customizable designs, they have three reference floor plans on their site that range in size from 1,176 square feet to 3,000 square feet. Past homes from Mighty Buildings typically feature a sleek modern style, with tall windows, sliding glass doors, and PVC roofing. Their units are built with a unique thermoset composite called Light Stone Material that looks similar to Corian. This unique building material makes their units durable, lightweight, water resistant, fire resistant, frost resistant, and more thermally resistant than concrete. Some customization is available, but interior walls, floor plans, fixtures, cabinets, and MEP systems are fixed.
Mighty Buildings uses 3D printing and robotics to automate the construction process. Their unique construction process eliminates the 3-5 lbs/square foot of waste involved in traditional construction. Once a unit has been designed, it may take 4-6 months to be installed, depending on the backlog however, homes arrive on site in a highly finished state and include fixtures, cabinets, appliances, and HVAC systems, leaving very little on-site work.
