Enertia Review

Enertia is a prefab home kit designer and manufacturer based in Youngsville, North Carolina. They offer over 15 home kits with floor plans ranging from 928 square feet to 3,789 square feet though they can also build totally custom home kits or modify existing floor plans. In terms of style, their homes often have a traditional craftsman design with multiple stories, ground-level basements, seam metal roofs, plus clerestory rooflines and dormer windows  As a kit home provider, Enertia does not include interior features like furnishings, fixtures, appliances, interior doors in their kits.

All of Enertia’s pre-designed home kits feature geo-solar capabilities which allows for enhanced energy savings. With their solar panels and geo-thermal design, homes from Enertia can be self-reliant for heating, cooling, and power generation. This is accomplished through rooftop solar paneling and solid-wood walls. Enertia claims their solid-wood wall design can create a greenhouse effect that warms homes in the winter and cools it in summer, eliminating the need for insulation and AC. As part of their unique greenhouse-style designs, homes include “sunspace” areas that can also be used to grow and harvest food.

Once the buyer has selected a design, kits are constructed in their Youngsville, North Carolina factory. The finished kit is then shipped to buyers via trailer anywhere in the United States, for $1.85 - $2 per mile, though shipping is free for projects within North Carolina. It is worth noting that Enertia does not assemble the kits, meaning buyers have to work with a local contractor for site work, laying a foundation, kit assembly, and finishing the interior of the home.

Strengths:

  • Deliver prefab kits anywhere in the the United States with low shipping costs

  • Offer a wide variety of home kits including floor plans with multiple stories and ground-level basements

  • Their homes have both geo-thermal and solar energy features which can be helpful for buyers looking for a home that can achieve net-zero energy efficiency

Reasons they might not be for you:

  • You want a home that arrives in a more finished state

  • You want to work with a company that handles all stages of the project including site work

  • Home kits only include structural components meaning interior finishes and utilities must be sourced by the buyer and/or local contractor
