ModsPDX Review

ModsPDX is a designer and builder of modular homes based in Portland, Oregon. They typically work with residential developers, contractors, and architects to offer fully-custom modular homes for both single-family and multi-unit residential projects. During the design process, their in-house design team takes a site-specific approach, developing home plans based on the weather, geography, and condition of the buyer’s plot of land.

While their homes are completely custom, past builds often feature sleek modern styles with metal finishes, plenty of small windows, walkways, flat metal roofs with lots of overhang, glass doors, and a mix of smartside lap and distinctly panelized siding. Interiors often feature a modern Scandanavian style with exposed wood rafters, stainless steel appliances, full cabinetry, hanging ceiling lights, hardwood floors, and lots of lightly colored sanded or oiled woodwork. ModsPDX holds a “multi-family path to net zero” award as their homes are designed and crafted with sustainability in mind and often achieve net-zero efficiency. For example, every room comes with sensors that allow for consistent, cost-effective heating and cooling.

ModsPDX can undertake a majority of a project’s requirements, including design, manufacturing, permitting, delivery, and assisting with setting the modules. First, buyers work closely with ModsPDX to design their home, using the “MODS Universal Building Platform” 3D modeling software to customize everything from the floor plan to the finish. When all plans and schematics are complete, the module goes into construction in ModsPDX’s 60,000 square foot Portland factory. Meanwhile, a local contractor can work on site work such as setting a foundation and preparing utility connections. Once the module is 100% complete, ModsPDX delivers the home to the build site and can assist with setting the modules.
