Habitat Homes Review

Habitat Homes is a prefab ADU manufacturer and designer based in San Francisco, California. Habitat Homes’ floor plans range from 426 square feet to 1,200 square feet. In terms of style, their prefab units feature a modern ranch design, with vaulted interior ceilings, craftsman shutters, and prominent batten boards siding. While floor plans are pre-designed, the home interior and exterior are customizable. Homes are built on top of a stem wall foundation, engineered for earthquake safety. Homes arrive on site in a highly finished state and include fixtures, appliances, electrical, and plumbing. Units come fitted with a furnace, but A/C requires a paid upgrade.

It is worth noting that Habitat Homes handles all design, permitting, approval, building, delivery, and installation. Homes are delivered completely assembled, leaving very little work to be done before they are turn-key ready. On average, the entire build process takes about 6 months.

Strengths:

  • Homes are delivered in a highly-finished state

  • Offer turn-key building services

Reasons they might not be for you:

  • You are looking for a bigger home (their largest floor plan is 1,200 sqft)

  • You are located outside of their bay area installation area

  • You are looking for more flexibility in layout or home design
