Studio Shed Review

Studio Shed is a full-service prefab home, ADU, and studio company based in Louisville, CO.  They design and manufacture three different models of studio spaces ranging in size from 64 - 256 square feet and two styles of home/ADUs that ranges in size from 252 - 1,000 square feet. The Summit Series is Studio Shed’s semi-custom home/ADU which can be purchased in one of over 20 footprints and then tailored to suit your exact needs. They also offer an Aspect line of ADUs/ small square footage homes, which features a mid-century modern aesthetic. This model is available in 2 sizes with configurable floor plans.
Aside from selecting the size, buyers have the option to choose the size and location of the bathroom and kitchen, if desired; placement; size; and style of doors and windows, and more cosmetic options such as siding material and color. If selected, homes that are shipped with a kitchen include appliances and cabinets. Furthermore, buyers can elect to complete the home assembly and finish themselves or they can have a StudioShed-sponsored general contractor lay the foundation, assemble, and finish the home. Prospective buyers can explore all of these options and cost estimates associated with each choice in an interactive tool available on Studio Shed’s website. It is worth noting that because Studio Shed allows for partial customization of all of their Summit Series homes, there can be significant variation in final project costs. It is our experience however, that final costs range between $400 - $650+ per square feet for a completed home from Studio Shed.

Aside from the Summit & Aspect Series, studio shed sells three designs of studios. Unlike the Summit Series, interiors only include electrical connections. It is possible however, to have a Studio Shed contractor complete the installation of the studio. It is worth noting that Studio Shed does follow certain environmentally-friendly practices and utilizes recycled cork flooring and denim installation in their projects. For some of their smaller units, buyers can also elect to install a solar power system.

Strengths:

  • Are transparent about final project cost from the start

  • Can act as a full-service company if desired

Reasons they may not be for you:

  • You are looking for a larger home

  • They have a narrow selection of design elements to choose from
