Honka is an international prefabricated home manufacturer based in Finland, though their operations in the U.S. and Canada are handled by local offices. Honka’s log homes come in a variety of styles though buyers also have the option for either partial or complete design customization. Pre-engineered home kits come in both traditional and contemporary log home styles as well as log cabins and holiday lodges. Although all homes are log homes, buyers have the option to select the exterior cladding and as such can have non-traditional exteriors for log homes. It is important to note that as a kit home provider, Honka is only responsible for providing the materials necessary for the shell of your home (logs, windows, roofing, doors etc., though buyer’s can opt out of certain features if desired) and it is up to a local builder to complete necessary sitework, assemble the home, and finish the interior of your home. Even though they are not responsible for on-site work, Honka still plays a hands-on role in the process and can help buyers with land surveys, design consultations, and even finding a local contractor.
Log homes from Honka are built using sustainably sourced lumber and can easily accommodate sustainable add-ons such as solar panels or geothermal heating systems. These add-ons come in addition to the environmentally-friendly nature of log homes which are naturally more energy efficient than traditional wood-frame homes as the logs can store heat during the day and better insulate the home at night.
