Global Modulars Review

Global Modulars is a designer and builder of shipping container homes. Their homes are built using steel “High Cube'' cargo containers. Their 6 floor plans range from 320 square feet to 1,920 square feet, with limited modifications. However, full customization may be available on a project-by-project basis. Foundation options include screw pile & helical piles, concrete perimeters, concrete basements, and even concrete garages. Exteriors feature a sleek, modern look with steel shipping container siding. Wide floor-to-ceiling windows, decking, plus stucco or hardwood finishes are also prominent in Global Modulars’ designs. Interiors come with wide plank composite flooring, granite counters, shaker cabinetry, heating, air conditioning, toilets, showers, dual sinks, and high ceilings (at least 9”). Homes are built with an efficient 2lb polyurethane closed cell foam that boosts insulation and reduces heating and cooling costs. As a green company, Global Modulars often connects homes to wind and solar power systems to achieve net-zero energy homes.

From a logistics standpoint, buyers first consult with Global Modulars to assess site/project feasibility, zoning, design, and pricing. After settling on a plan and project price quote, Global Modulars designs and engineers the home with energy calculations, soil reports, septic plans, and all permitting as they offer buyers a finalized contract. Buyers make a downpayment as the home modules go into construction at Global Modulars’ 34,500+ square foot factory in Sebastian, Florida. Meanwhile, Global Modulars’ chosen contractor team prepares the site by laying a foundation and preparing utility connections. The completed home module is then shipped to the buyer’s site anywhere in the US and set on the foundation via crane. The septic system is finished as a contractor completes final installations such as decking, solar, and stairs. Buyers have one final walkthrough before they approve the build and get their keys. The entire process, from signing the contract to moving in, can be completed in 8-10 weeks.

Strengths:

  • Once homes are permitted and approved, they can be built and move-in ready as quick as 8-10 weeks

  • Their unique shipping container building materials create modern and efficient living spaces

Reasons they might not be for you:

  • Their cargo container homes do not interest you or you are seeking a company that specializes in more traditional home styles

  • You want a custom home design
