Bamboo Living Review

Bamboo Living is a prefab home manufacturer and designer based in Pahoa, Hawaii. They offer 29 studio and single-family models, with floor plans ranging from 100 square feet to 2,766 square feet. In terms of style, Bamboo Living’s homes feature a tropical design, with exposed bamboo rafters, natural split bamboo siding, dormers, roof eaves, and bamboo trim. All models and plans are customizable. Their homes are built to withstand extreme weather like hurricanes, cyclones, and earthquakes. Their Cook Island structures have weathered category 5 hurricanes with winds up to 200 mph. Bamboo Living is an environmentally friendly company, using bamboo and other more sustainable materials to curb their use of wood and timber.

Bamboo Living’s manufacturing process lasts about 3-6 months and shipping generally takes 1 month. On site construction can be finished in as little as 1-7 days. Homes are pre-assembled and shipped from their factory but require a local builder for simple reassembly and on-site work. Bamboo Living provides a list of recommended project managers and general contractors to serve as your builder in most US locations. Bamboo Living handles all permitting and zoning, but plumbing and electrical are handled locally.

Strengths:

  • Unique bamboo home finish and design

  • Environmentally friendly, with green building materials and practices

Reasons they might not be for you:

  • You want to work with a company who will personally handle all phases of the project, including assembly and site work

  • You aren’t interested in a tropical bamboo home design
