Dickinson Homes Review

Dickinson Homes is a designer and builder of prefab homes based in Iron Mountain, Michigan. They currently offer 40+ pre-designed floor plans ranging from 538 square feet to 3,792 square feet. Dickinson Homes also works with buyers looking for a custom home, allowing for both the customization of finishes and floor plans. Dickinson Homes builds a wide variety of styles, including traditional ranches, chalets, hybrid log cabins, and sleek, modern, tiny homes.

While vertical cedar siding is common for most of their modular homes, buyers can also choose Smartside, logs, or even a stone finish. Rustic finish like logs, trusses, timber posts, and porches are also common. Buyers also have the option to include unique interior design elements such as cathedral or raised ceilings, glass walls, lofts, handcrafted wood railings, log stairs, exposed beams, trusses, and posts for an open rustic aesthetic. Luxury features like balconies, fireplaces, kitchen islands, chandeliers, stonework, and lots of glass are also popular.

From a process standpoint, most projects start with a project manager visiting the build site and working with buyers to craft a design. Dickinson Homes then handles all permitting and documentation. With the design and paperwork complete, home modules go into construction at Dickinson Homes’ Kingsford, Michigan factory. While the home is being manufactured, Dickinson Homes’ team prepares the site including setting a foundation, preparing utility hookup,s and any other necessary site work. Completed home modules are then shipped to the site and set on a permanent foundation, usually in as little as 1-2 days. Finally, Dickson Homes’ team completes any remaining finish work before buyers can move in.

In addition to modular homes, Dickinson Homes also designs and manufactures tiny homes. Their Scandanavian-inspired tiny homes can be ready in as little as 10 weeks. Their tiny homes often feature glass doors, seam metal roofs, LED lights, porches, energy efficient appliances, and wood walls both inside and outside. Tiny homes come with a 15-year structural warranty, plus material and product warranties depending on custom features.
