In terms of style, their ADUs feature a modern cabin design, with tall windows, sliding glass doors, corrugated metal roofs, and sleek Douglas Fir decking. Their ADUs are made up of a prefabricated shell with walls, windows, and exterior finishes all made in their factory. Interior layouts, fixtures, and finishes are not included, leaving buyers free to fully customize their interior. Limited exterior customization options are also available. ADU modules may be attached and combined for extra space.
Backcountry Hut’s ADUs are built with 100% recyclable and sustainable materials per the company’s zero waste policy. Once the manufacturing process has begun, ADUs can be fabricated in as fast as 3 months. During fabrication, the pre-designed foundation is built with either a concrete pad, piers, a perimeter crawlspace, or a habitable basement. Once the shell is completed, the ADU kit is shipped from Vancouver to anywhere in the United States or Canada. It is worth noting that while Backcountry Hut assists with permitting and design, they do not handle assembly or on-site work. Buyers can assemble the DIY kit themselves or work with a general contractor. A team of builders can usually finish on-site assembly in 1-4 weeks depending on the module size. While ADUs come with insulation, all heating, electrical, plumbing, and other utilities must be planned with a builder.
